I’m back! Well, sorta.
You probably didn’t notice since it’s been more than a year since I posted to my personal blog, but the blog itself disappeared recently when International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) discontinued their member benefit eXchange site that provided hosting for my blog.
I missed any forewarning that came out about that, so went into a bit of a panic that I’d suddenly lost seven-to-eight years worth of content. It may not all be stellar content, but I’d been down this road before when a group blog I contributed to called This Mommy Gig disappeared. There were several posts there that I wish I had archived, but didn’t. And despite that learning experience, I’d still been lax about creating a backup of my own blog.
Luckily, when I reached out to the team at IABC headquarters, they were willing to help me out. After a bit of back and forth, we found that an XML file could still be pulled out of the old site, which I was then able to import into a new WordPress blog here. WHEW!
So, I’m still trying to figure out if there’s any hope of getting all the images, but at least the text is saved. I won’t guarantee more fresh posts will come with any frequency, but I am going to try harder.
And if you have any tips to share about what it would take to migrate the images (preferably quickly and easily as I don’t have a lot of spare time), or if you’ve got tips for how I should start backing up the site in case (heaven forbid) WordPress ceased to exist one day, DO SHARE!
